Fusion Unchained was founded by two engineers who together spent more than fifty years building verification infrastructure, methodologies, and automation for some of the world’s most demanding ASIC programs.
Across projects at Sun Microsystems, Oracle, PLX Technology, Avago, and Broadcom, we saw the same pattern repeat itself: talented engineers repeatedly rebuilding solutions that already existed somewhere else.
Our products capture proven engineering knowledge and make it reusable, helping teams spend less time reinventing solutions and more time delivering silicon.
We believe the verification industry’s biggest opportunity is preserving engineering knowledge.
Our philosophy
- Every engineering effort should compound.
- Every investigation should make the next investigation easier.
- Every workflow should become reusable.
- Every successful project should leave the next project in an even better position.
Meet the founders
Carl Cavanagh

Co-founder · Verification Architect
Carl has spent more than twenty-five years designing verification frameworks, methodologies, and infrastructure for complex ASIC programs.
His career began at Ensigma (now Imagination Technologies), where he was tasked with building the verification environment for a Digital Audio Broadcasting ASIC from the ground up. It was an experience that established a philosophy he still holds today: good verification depends on good methodology.
At Sun Microsystems and Oracle, Carl led development of distributed simulation infrastructure capable of synchronizing simulations across multiple CPUs, work that resulted in eight U.S. patents. He later verified DDR2 memory controllers and PCIe devices before joining PLX Technology.
Over fourteen years at PLX, Avago, and Broadcom, Carl architected an advanced verification framework that enabled a relatively small team to deliver multiple generations of industry-leading PCIe switch ASICs. The framework introduced reusable verification components, intelligent stimulus generation, self-managing scoreboards, plug-in checkers, runtime configuration, and automation that dramatically reduced repeated engineering effort across projects.
Much of the thinking behind Fusion Unchained, and products such as LogMatic, comes directly from techniques refined during those production programs.
Carl still describes himself simply as an engineer.
Ben Brewer

Co-founder · Verification Engineer
Ben has spent his career building verification environments for high-performance ASICs.
After earning degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, he joined Sun Microsystems, where he worked on graphics processors before moving into high-end server ASIC verification. Following Oracle’s acquisition of Sun, he continued developing verification infrastructure before joining PLX Technology.
Over more than a decade at PLX, Avago, and Broadcom, Ben helped develop verification environments for multiple generations of PCIe switch devices, building scalable test benches and automation used throughout production development.
Throughout his career he repeatedly encountered the same challenge: teams recreating solutions that had already been solved elsewhere.
Ben co-founded Fusion Unchained to eliminate that unnecessary repetition.
